Для обтягивания подготавливаем обод, верхний слой отшлифовываем шкуркой (фото 1). Канавки подготовлены специально для того, чтобы скрыть в них поперечные швы. С помощью малярного скотча делаем выкройку (фото 2).

Намечаем места будущих швов (фото 3). Затем осторожно срезаем обмотку и получаем формы выкройки (фото 4).

Детали выкройки (фото 5). Кожа хорошо тянется, объемные части выкройки будут создавать за счет этого. Переносим детали выкройки на ватман, добавляем припуски для поперечных швов (фото 6).

Сшиваем детали с использованием синтетической прочной нити. Подойдет лавсановая нить. Сшивать можно как на машине, так и вручную (фото 7). Производим примерку (фото 8).

По внешней стороне руля кожа натягивается, поэтому к внутренней стороне заворачивается естественным образом. Снимаем обтяжку и аккуратно прошиваем по краям (фото 9). Перед окончательной обтяжкой устанавливаем обогрев (фото 10).

Для обогрев руля использовался нихромовая проводка диаметром 0,3мм, четыре отрезка по 170 мм, сопротивлением 6 Ом, и мощностью 30 Ватт. Это дает эффект теплого руля.
Размещаем выкройку на руле и стягиваем кожу (фото 11). Процесс ручного стягивания кожи требует усилий и терпения, ручной способ является самым надежным, кожа отлично сядет. В самых труднодоступных местах оставляем немного нитей, ушиваем излишки, восстанавливаем швы и аккуратно стягиваем (фото 12).

Шов поперечный может быть как ручным так и машинным (фото 15). Сложное место пересечения швов, где надо увеличить частоту стежков (фото 16).

Для того, чтобы добиться отсутствия складок, стягиваем стежки подряд (фото 17). При этом кожа должна аккуратно натягиваться (фото 18).

Для подключения подогрева устанавливаем дополнительный латунный контакт на подрулевом блоке (фото 19). Также подсоединяем латунное кольцо для контакта, смазываем токопроводящей смазкой (фото 20).

Витки подогрева на руле немного проступают в холодное время из-за мягкости и усадки кожи (фото 21). Устройство обогрева подключаем напрямую к бортовой сети с помощью предохранителя и микровыключателя (фото 22). При нагретом руле кожаное покрытие выравнивается.
